| Customer Reviews: How to make it look like true stainless steel...... August 18, 2010 pete maresco (BELMAR, NJ, US) If you're looking for that brushed stainless look, then just spraying on the surface is not enough. coat the surface multiple times, then on the last coat, use a high quality wide faced brush with super fine bristles. Immediately after applying the paint, lightly go over the surface in a straight line with the brush. this will more or less guarantee as close to the real thing as possible.
Stay AWAY from this stuff!!! August 14, 2010 John T. Tran Sorry...there is no substitution for the real thing!
I tried this stuff on my microwave and the color and texture
looks as fake as can be. It doesn't look like stainless steel.
It looks like grey paint, silver paint or something in between but it ain't stainless steel. My alternative is to now contact one of these online companies that can custom cut a piece of stainless steel each for my microwave and oven.

Excellent paint (spray button is too small) May 16, 2010 Victor H. Agresti (Gaithersburg, MD United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Enamel Spray Paint
Every few years, we remove and disassemble our front steel security door and sidelights. We remove the rust, scrape paint flakes off, and clean. We use spray paint as it makes for a better job than using a brush. This year, we used 4 cans of Rust-Oleum's Professional High Performance Enamel.
Pros:
- Paint appears to be of high quality.
- If it's in the 70's or up (and not humid), the paint dries to the touch in less than 15 minutes, and can be re-coated in an hour. I waited up to a full day between coats though, so the paint would be fully dry.
- The spray pattern is excellent. The fine mist makes it easy to apply a smooth finish.
Cons:
- The 3/8" diameter red spray button [with sharp edges] is very uncomfortable if you have a large painting job. For small jobs it's OK, but otherwise it doesn't take long for your fingertip to hurt. (Alternating between index finger and thumb helps.) We did another spray job using Valspar brand paint; their spray button is twice as large and is contoured to fit a fingertip.
- After using a full can, there was a white "fog" of paint mist floating in the air in much of the garage. (The fog is the color of the paint.) After 4 cans of spraying, the entire double garage floor was covered with a fine white [paint] dust. We had to mop the floor. Use an exhaust fan while painting if you have one!
Other:
- As with any spray paint, use a respirator while painting; not a cheap dust mask. You really don't want to breathe that toxic fog. If you wear glasses, use goggles to keep paint mist off the lenses.
- Paint outside, in a garage, a barn, etc., unless the job is very small. Besides the paint mist settling throughout the room, the chemical stench after using this stuff is overpowering.
great paint April 21, 2010 J. Li (NYC) Like someone else said, it's worth the extra price for the Professional series. It drys faster and the end result looks better. Time = money, and saving time between multiple coats mean getting the job done quicker, which is well worth the few extra bucks.
One thing I like to point out though. Dark Machine Gray really isn't that dark, and it's a lot lighter in person than the picture suggests.
Good quality at a good price. February 3, 2010 Kenneth C. Reed (Forest Ranch, California United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've used Rust-Oleum for years and they have always been good. The "Professional" series is worth the bit of extra price: quality paint, a good nozzle, and a long lasting finish.
